At a national level, enterprise is a key driver of productivity - an active small and medium sized enterprise sector drives productivity and growth.  At a local level, enterprise creates jobs for the unemployed and provides vital services.  Harder to measure are the social outcomes: individuals fulfilling their aspirations, developing self-confidence, learning new skills.

Real neighbourhood renewal.

There are many partners in this work - including central Government, the Regional Development Agencies, local authorities, local strategic partnerships, voluntary and community organisations, social enterprises, large and small businesses, banks, business support providers, and of course local people.  They all need to find ways to work to work together to achieve real change, using the skills, resources, and the tools at their disposal.

The time has come to look at the issue of enterprise in deprived areas in a new and constructive way.
